AMAZING, AMAZING GRACE

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith -- and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God -- not by works, so that no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)

God’s grace is amazing because it meets us exactly where we are -- but it never leaves us there. Grace is God stepping toward us when we had no strength, no goodness, and no way to reach Him on our own. It’s the unearned, undeserved, unstoppable love of a God who refuses to give up on His people.

Grace is amazing because it is personal. God doesn’t offer a distant, mechanical forgiveness. He offers Himself. He draws near to the brokenhearted, lifts the weary, restores the sinner, and calls each of us by name. His grace doesn’t just clean the slate; it reshapes the heart.

Grace is amazing because it is constant. We fail, God remains faithful. We wander, He pursues. We fall short, He supplies strength. There is no moment when His grace runs thin or His patience wears out. It is new every morning, steady every evening, and present in every breath.

Grace is amazing because it is transforming. It doesn’t simply forgive what we’ve done -- it changes who we are. Grace teaches us to walk in freedom, to love boldly, to forgive generously, and to live with a hope that cannot be shaken.

Grace is amazing because it is costly -- but not to us. It cost Jesus everything. The cross is the clearest picture of grace: God choosing mercy over judgment, love over alienation, and redemption over ruin.

UNDERSTANDING WHO CHRIST IS

“[Jesus] is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.”  (Colossians 1:15-20 NKJV)

In these verses Paul paints a breathtaking picture of Christ's unparalleled role in creation and redemption. It declares that Christ is "the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation" and emphasizes that "by Him all things were created". This passage invites us to reflect on the majesty of Jesus as the Creator and Sustainer of the universe.

Jesus is not just a historical figure; He is God revealed to us. Everything in heaven and on earth exists through Him and for Him. Recognizing His authority reminds us that He holds all things together, including our lives, even in moments of chaos.

This passage also highlights Jesus' mission to reconcile all things to Himself through His sacrifice on the cross. His love extends to every corner of creation, bringing peace where there was once brokenness.

Understanding who Christ is calls us to surrender our lives to Him. We can trust Him completely because He is the foundation of all things. Worship Him with awe, knowing that the One who created the stars also knows your heart.

Today, let these verses encourage you to deepen your reverence and gratitude for Jesus. He is supreme and yet personal, the creator and yet the sacrifice, and He invites you to experience His peace and purpose.

THE BODY OF CHRIST

“Speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of Him who is the head, that is, Christ. From Him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.”  (Ephesians 4:15-16 NIV)

Many Christians today feel that their walk with God is private and independent. They see no need for joining a church or making themselves accountable to other believers. Some view the church in terms of how it can help then accomplish the ministry God has given them personally, rather than seeking how their lives fit into the larger work the Lord is doing in the congregation. The Bible teaches that our walk with God is personal, but it is not private. Sin makes people independent. Salvation makes us interdependent on one another. Scripture teaches that the church is a body in which each member is vitally important to the others.

FOR ME

"I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me." (Galatians 2:20 NKJV)

Every one of us must face the cross. Every one of us needs to come personally. "He died for me." Put the "me" into it. Only when you begin there, will the love of Christ begin to dawn in you.

GLIMPSES OF TRUTH

“Jesus said to the people who believed in Him, ‘You are truly My disciples if you remain faithful to My teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.’”  (John 8:31-32 NLT)

Soren Kierkegaard once said that reading the Bible is like coming to a street corner and waiting for the traffic to pass before crossing the street.  And while you are waiting, you overhear the conversation of the two women in front of you.  They are oblivious to your presence, but as they talk, you realize that the conversation is about you.  And what they say reveals to you things that you never suspected about yourself.

When I read the Bible in the power of the Holy Spirit, it's just like that.  Though it was not written to me, I sense that it was written for me.  I don't hear just what the Bible says to people in places long ago and far away.  Rather, I feel as though I am overhearing messages that were meant just for me.  In my devotional reading of the Scripture, as distinct from my times of study, I feel my soul being opened up to glimpses of Truth that are incredibly personal.
