WHEN THE GATHERED CHURCH REKINDLES THE HEART

Jesus said, “For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” (Matthew 18:20 NKJV)

Martin Luther once wrote in his diary, “At home in my house there is no warmth or vigor in me, but in the church when the multitude is gathered together, a fire is kindled in my heart and it breaks its way through.”

There’s something mysteriously powerful about the people of God coming together. We can love Jesus deeply in private, but there are days when our personal flame flickers -- days when prayer feels thin, worship feels quiet, and faith feels like embers instead of fire.

Yet God, in His kindness, has woven our spiritual strength into the fabric of community. When believers gather -- singing, praying, listening, hoping -- the Spirit often does what solitude cannot. Hearts ignite. Courage rises. Weariness lifts. The fire spreads.

Luther’s words remind us that the warmth of faith is not meant to be self‑contained. God designed the church to be a place where individual sparks become a shared blaze. In the presence of others, our hearts remember what they had forgotten: We are not alone. God is moving. And His Spirit still kindles fire.

May you find this weekend that the fire burns brighter when you stand among the people of God.
