WATCH WHERE YOUR FEET TAKE YOU

“…I will show you my faith by my deeds.”  (James 2:18b NIV)

Actions speak louder than words in the spiritual world... Jesus tells a parable about a man with two sons. He asks the first to do something for him. He asks the second to do the same. The first son says he won't do it, but then later does. The second son say he will do it, and then later on does not.

There are many reasons why doing is more important than saying. One is because of the very nature of words themselves. Words can be tricky. It's possible to misunderstand them...

Another reason that doing is more important than saying is because it's possible to say all sorts of stuff and really not mean it...

Frederick Buechner once said that if you want to know who you are, as opposed to who you like to think you are, watch where your feet take you. I think he said this because he knows this same truth: the feet don't lie about who we are, because the feet are involved in what we do, not just what we say.

Watch where your feet take you. Take some time to assess not just who you say that you are, but also who you are through what you do. Maybe it's time to recommit your life to not just saying for Christ, but also doing for Christ as well?

THE GIFT OF LOVE

"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." -- John 3:16 NIV

Love is a gift God gives to us in infinite measure so that our hearts can enjoy an endless supply. Let's tap into it. Let's lavish it on others. Let's fill our words and define our actions with it, and as we do, our hearts will reap God's abundance. He'll always give more than we can fathom and more than we can possibly give away. And though it appears to be packaged in heart-shaped boxes and glass vases as we celebrate Valentine's Day, love will always find its purest expression through words and deeds  --  as our heavenly Father exemplified through His gift of Jesus Christ. He loved us completely and expressed it openly. We'll discover extraordinary blessings on the path of His example.  Let's openly share the gift of His Son with others unconditionally.

DEEDS AND WORDS

Sometimes we are tempted to believe that deeds, not words, are the most important part of our witness for Christ. But upon deeper reflection we realize how very important words are. A record of only the deeds of Jesus would be a treasure, of course. However, to add His words to the record of His deeds adds infinite richness to our understanding of Jesus. The words of Jesus help interpret for us His deeds, and His deeds help give credibility to His words. The same is true of the person who witnesses for Christ.
