THE LOVE OF GOD FILLS OUR HEARTS

“For we know how dearly God loves us, because He has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with His love.”  (Romans 5:5b NLT)

There’s a God many of us try to outrun. The God we fear might be watching us from afar with a clipboard of our failures. The God we’re afraid to talk to because we assume He’s angry, distant, or disappointed. Maybe you’ve met this version of Him through harsh words, religious trauma, or your own shame.

But what if that God isn't real? What if the true God -- the one described in Romans 5:5 -- is pouring love into your heart right now, through the presence of the Holy Spirit? What if this God is exactly who your soul has been aching to find?

The God of Scripture is not out to condemn you but to claim you in Christ. Not to shame you, but to heal and transform you. His love is not conditional. It's not earned or revoked. It’s poured out, overflowing, even in our mess, even in our doubts.

This is a God who orchestrates your story with purpose. A God who uses even the broken pieces as breadcrumbs back to Him. He doesn’t delight in your failure, but rather rejoices in every step you take toward Him -- even the shaky ones.

Romans 5:5 reminds us that this love, God’s love, is not a distant idea. It’s a present reality. It dwells inside you, if you let it, through the Spirit He’s already given.

Today, take a deep breath. Rest in the quiet assurance that God is not who you feared -- but far better than you dreamed. He sees you. He loves you. And yes, He’s the God you’ve been looking for all along.

THE INDWELLING SPIRIT

“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.”  (Romans 8:1-2 NIV)

At the moment you placed your faith in Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord, a life of obedience to God became an expected reality. The Holy Spirit set you free from sin and death, and He came to live within you. The Holy Spirit enables you to live consistently with Jesus’ values.

John R. W. Stott noted, “It is thus through His atoning death that the penalty of our sins may be forgiven; whereas it is through His indwelling Spirit that the power of our sins may be broken.”

COSTLY GRACE

“For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.”  (1 Corinthians 6:20 NKJV)

Such grace is costly because it calls us to follow, and it is grace because it calls us to follow Jesus Christ. It is costly because it costs man his life, and it is grace because it gives a man the only true life. It is costly because it condemns sin, and grace because it justifies the sinner. Above all, it is costly because it cost God the life of His Son; "you were bought with a price," and what has cost God much cannot be cheap for us. Above all, it is grace because God did not reckon His Son too dear a price to pay for our life, but delivered Him up for us.

INTERCEDING FOR US

"Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died -- more than that, who was raised to life -- is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us." (Romans 8:34 NIV)

If I could hear Christ praying for me in the next room, I would not fear a million enemies.  Yet distance makes no difference.  He is praying for me.

THE DESIRE TO DO THE CORRECT THING

"And Jesus said to her, 'Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.'" (John 8:11 NKJV)

We should not condone sinful behavior any more than Jesus approved of the activities of the woman at the well or the woman caught in adultery.  But Jesus focused more on connection than correction.  He knew that when the connection grew strong, so would the desire to do the correct thing.
