“In Christ
you also, when you had heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation,
and had believed in Him, were marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit;
this is the pledge of our inheritance toward redemption as God’s own people, to
the praise of His glory.” (Ephesians 1:13-14

We are living "between the times" -- the time of
Christ's resurrection and the new age of the Spirit, and the time of
fulfillment in Christ. Life in the
Spirit is a pledge, a "down-payment", on the final kingdom of
shalom. In the meantime, we are to be
signs of the kingdom which is, and which is coming.
