If
God wanted us to just have religion, He would have stayed up in heaven and not
come here to sacrifice His very life for you and me. He wanted us to have more
than religion. He wanted us to have a relationship with Him which will last
forever. He is extremely serious about it. What about you? How determined are
you about living for Him?

Dave,
ReplyDeleteDelzell is trying to make a point by squeezing the word "religion" a bit. While it's true there are those who simply call themselves Christian and let it go at that - which makes as much sense as having a weed-filled garden in the backyard and calling oneself a gardener - Religion IS a relationship, or it's an empty shell.
Like rain that simply runs off the hard ground, God's grace is an invitation to everlasting life. The risen power of Jesus Christ is ready to fill each of us with new insight, new hope, new determination, new social awareness, and dalways an awareness and concern for the poor; but we need to turn on the switch, say YES,
say "Here I am, Lord." That faith relationship needs nourishing until it flows from God to us and from us to everyone else on this earth, including this earth. Grace greens the soul; self-centeredness is a desert. Grace
brings unity, self-centeredness brings the futility of aloneness. Grace brings a helping hand; self-centeredness keeps the hopeless, heartless status quo.
