THE HABIT OF WORSHIP

"Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another -- and all the more as you see the Day approaching." (Hebrews 10:25 NIV)

My wife and I recently had a dinner conversation with a couple who said that they left another church as a result of a pastor, had tried another church with no success, and now were not worshipping anywhere. They said it was too easy to get out of the habit.

Let me encourage you to be in the habit of worshipping every Sunday, not just when you feel like it, not just when you're in town, not just when the kids have Sunday school. Make it your habit to worship and you'll find that God has made it His habit to show up as well.

  1. This is so true, especially as our society and culture become more and more prone to disputes and dissension! It's like we have our own twenty-first rendition of the Corinthians' problems! It is often so disheartening that we fail to see the continued importance of "showing up!" I like that about God's not ever not showing up! It's really difficult for me, sometimes, to separate the personal way what is going on in our nation and society affects me from the resources we have in-Christ! Thank you for reminding me, again, today!

  3. Hmmm Good timing for me on this one. Though I am fortunate to work in spiritual care in a long term care facility where I receive 2 church services weekly by local ministers who rotate helping us in this way, I struggle with whether this setting is fulfilling my worship /community experience as I try and search for another church.

Will print this off and put it in front of me to reflect on as I continue to pray for clarity around this situation I find myself in ....i’m not the typical congregant who left easily but remained about 6 yrs /chaired the board/etc. etc. so know so much more than really most members ‘want to know” I struggle with hearing “i know what is going on, but I just want to hear a good sermon” to “I’m a pew sitter....I don’t want to know what is going on” and those comments sometimes come from board members. SOOOOOOO trust me, I talk to God alot about this decision I have made. Integrity/accountability for me is vital along with forgiveness for sure..........and grace...........but I don’t believe forgiveness and grace can be used to “put things under the rug” so to speak and hope they disappear.

As always, your messages are greatly appreciated and sometimes very timely.
